How to Get Rid of the Monday Blues

Catrinas,

I usually love Mondays. Today, however, was especially tough. I couldn’t focus, I had a headache, as the title says I was having the Monday blues.

It’s always difficult to start the week with no mood or energy to do even the simplest of tasks.

As the saying goes “The struggle is real.”

Even though I started the day with little motivation I slowly got out of it and got some work done. Not necessarily a lot, but a little productivity goes a long way.

Here are 10 ways to battle the Monday Blues:

1. Coffee/Tea— Whatever you personal drink is, go for it, and make it a double. I switch between green tea and coffee. I’ll take small bursts of energy over no energy at all. Also, something very therapeutic about a good cup of tea/coffee.

2. Write Down Your Thoughts— Focusing is hard on Mondays. There’s a lot to catch up on, there’s a lot to start, there’s a lot to finish, and it’s just one big headache. Write it down. Whatever meaningless jumble is going on in your head write it down. It doesn’t have to be coherent or in proper sentences just let it out.

3. Doodle— I started sketching what I saw on my desk during a conference call/ team meeting. I helps regain focus. If you can focus on this doodle, you can focus on other things. Just make sure not to get caught, or do it on your own time. You don’t have to be an artist. It’s something to get the brain juices going.

4. Meditate— Try out calm.com. Take TWO minutes. Breathe in deeply and enjoy the sound of the ocean, rain, birds, or bells. Seriously. Sometimes you just need to STOP what you’re doing and breathe.

5. To-Do List— I would go insane without a to-do list. Write down in order the 3-5 most pressing things of the day and just get those done. It will feel euphoric as you scratch out what you’ve done for the day.

6. Take a Walk— If your job requires you to sit most of the day, walk around the office, take the long way to the bathroom, go outside for a “smoke break,” or take a longer lunch than usual. Stretch out your body and relax.

7. A Killer Playlist— Sometimes all it takes is a good song to get you going.

8. A Motivational Article— Catch on on your favorite blog, read something that makes you feel good, or even look at what new celebrity gossip is out. These things will either make you smile, laugh, or if anything, make you appreciate that you are NOT Lindsay Lohan.

9. Drink Water— Sometimes headaches, lack of energy, and no focus comes from dehydration. For real. Make sure to keep hydrated.

10. If NONE of these help you. Go home. Go to bed. Restart again tomorrow.
